ASANA LAB Forward Folds and Hamstrings
Saturday 4 April | 11:00am to 1:00pm
Taught by Clare Lovelace
ASANA LAB is a workshop series designed to refine and deepen your asana practice through intelligent alignment, embodied awareness, and practical skill building. Each session explores a specific family of postures in detail, helping you understand how to work with your own body safely and effectively.
In this ASANA LAB we turn our attention to forward folds and the hamstrings, exploring the relationship between the spine, pelvis, and the long muscles along the back of the body.
Forward folds are often misunderstood. Many students believe the goal is simply to reach further or pull deeper into the pose, yet healthy forward bending is much more subtle and intelligent than that. When approached correctly, these postures lengthen the entire posterior chain of the body, support spinal health, and have a deeply calming effect on the nervous system.
In this workshop Clare will guide you through how to fold from the hips rather than collapsing the spine, how to create length and space before moving deeper, and how to work safely with tight hamstrings or sensitive lower backs.
You will explore how props can support both strength and release, how to adapt the postures to suit your proportions, and how to balance effort with surrender in forward bending.
Postures we will explore include:
Uttanasana Standing Forward Fold
Paschimottanasana Seated Forward Fold
Janu Sirsasana Head to Knee Pose
Prasarita Padottanasana Wide Leg Forward Fold
This is a spacious and educational practice suitable for all levels. Whether you are working with tight hamstrings, looking to refine your alignment, or wanting to understand forward folds more deeply, this workshop will give you practical tools you can bring back into your regular yoga practice.
